NWMHA Drills - Use
these drills to assist in the planning of your practice
New Drills
I would like to thank Ben Smets (Coach of Junior B White Caps
in Belgium) for submitting drills.
You can view these drills under the catagory: "Drills Submitted by Visitors To Our Site"
below
Planning
your practice is essential for teaching and development and
should not be overlooked.
Print
copies of the drills you will be using in an upcoming practice
for each of your players to review prior to the practice.
This will save some valuable time explaining drills on the
ice and the players will know what is expected of them.
By using
this method and assigning "homework" to your players
you should experience a vast improvement in efficiency and
skill development in your practices.
General
Drill Tips
Explain
the drill on the chalkboard prior to the practice or print
copies in advance so the players can see which drills you
will be doing at the next practice. This will help you save
valuable ice time!
Go through
the drill slowly on the ice with the players. Make sure you
emphasize the key teaching points.
Emphasize
proper execution of the drill using the key teaching points
as a guideline. It's better to do the drill slowly and properly,
rather that too fast and using improper techniques.
Add progressions
to the drill, as the players improve at their execution.
Be creative.
Never run the same drill for more than 10 minutes.
Keep
the practice moving and FUN!
Select
