Winnipeg East Hockey League:

The Winnipg Minor Hockey Association (WMHA) is the organization that oversees minor hockey in the Winnipeg area. The WMHA organizes play into a number of divisions. These are, from the highest level:

AAA (includes age categories between 13 - 17 years of age)
AA (includes age categories between 11 and 17 years of age)
Juvenile (players 18 years old and over)

The WMHA is divided into a number of area associations. Players in the northwest quadrant of the city belong to the Northwest Minor Hockey Association (NWMHA). This is a new area association, formed from an amalgamation of the former Midlands and North Winnipeg Minor Hockey Associations.

The NWMHA oversees AA, A and house league level hockey within its boundaries. Day to day operations of AA hockey are run by the AA board. Day to day operations of the A and house league level hockey are run by the NWMHA.

'A' level hockey is divided into two categories, one of which is Direct Entry for players aged 13-17 years of age. Day to day operations of Direct Entry hockey are run by the WMHA. For players aged 8-12 years of age, the WMHA is divided into two leagues, the East and West hockey leagues. Each league operates league play separately, but combine for the playoffs. Within the East and West Leagues, level of play is divided into three levels, A1 (highest), A2 and A3. Through the tryout process, players are placed onto teams appropriate to their level of play. There are a total of 13 categories of play within the WEHL
